Nearly a week ago, I decided it was time to give up some things in life so that I can get myself right with God again. That ‘thing’ was video games. Video games were taking up far too much time in my life, to the point of obsession.
Since going off it, despite being tempted to go back on them, I have felt closer to God again, and for the first time in a long time, I went for a long walk with my fiancé. It was well worth the walk, it was a cool winter’s day, the rain was trickling on the top of our heads, and the water was glistening off the green grass, I felt refreshed, and when we got to our destination, we both said, “I wish that the walk wasn’t so short”. We spent time just talking about life, work, God, and our future together, and just seeing how each other were going, all the while being in God’s presence.
There is something about the outdoors, something that draws me closer to God, and something that revives my spirit, and reminds me that there is more to life than video games, and the other idols in my life. If you are having a dry time in your spiritual life, ‘fast’, give up something in order to draw near to God once again. Spend time away from the things of this world, and spend time with God.
