The Blessing in Disguise

The following devotional is one that I wrote for my church, it isn’t as good as the two my wife wrote, but I trust you will be blessed reading through it.

Bible Reading:1 Peter 1:6-12

We will continue our journey today in the first chapter of 1 Peter, where he exhorts his audience to be glad, even though trials are inevitably coming their way. Staying strong through these trials is what will bring praise, honour, and glory on the day that Jesus returns and is revealed to all. This got me thinking, how happy am I with the idea that my faith will be stronger if I go through trials. How many of us, if given the option would simply respond with “I am happy with where my faith is, and even though I would like to have a stronger faith if that means tough times are ahead than I’m content with where I am at now”. Trials are healthy, they show where our allegiance really lies, whether or not our faith is genuine.

As I thought for good examples of the need for trials in our lives, and how we should rejoice in them, I thought of various stories that I’m sure you all have heard before. Then, I took my search to the one place that only ever tells the truth, Google. And as I searched, I came across this great quote from an unknown source.

In adversity we usually want God to do a removing job when He wants to do an improving job. To realize the worth of the anchor, we need to feel the storm.

It is so true of us, even as Christians. We often cry out, God please take this thing away, when what God is actually doing is strengthening us, improving us, to make us more like His Son Jesus Christ.

Peter reminds us that our faith is more precious than gold and that when we are able to stand strong in our faith through trials, that Jesus will be there waiting, ready to greet us and “it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world”.

I trust that as Christians we continue to stand strong in our faith, to remember that it is far more precious than money or anything else the world has to offer. May you be reminded when trials come your way that God may be using this to strengthen your faith and know that He is there with you to help you get through any tough times that may come your way.

Blessings
Harrison
